If you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes for a specific period of time while working, you won’t pay for Medicare Part A. This is sometimes referred to as “Premium-Free Part A,” and most people do get this.

If you are not eligible for Premium-Free Part A, you can purchase it. Depending on how long you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes, you will pay $274 or $499 per month for year 2022. If you decide not to enroll in Part A, you can still enroll in Part B.
