What Happens If You Miss Your Initial Medicare Enrollment Period?

If you missed your initial enrollment period (IEP), you will likely have to enroll during the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) or the General Enrollment Period (GEP). GEP starts January 1 and ends March 31. If you sign up during GEP, your coverage will kick in on July 1.
